Valhalla DSP Reverb Free is one of those elusive parts of the producer’s world. The mission: Apply a sense of space to the channels in your project, or create cool reverse reverb effects using reverb plug-ins. ValhallaDSP has created some of the most successful, signature, and perhaps most importantly, wallet-friendly reverb plugins. All ValhallaDSP Reverb plugins are created as algorithmic reverbs. Rather than start modeling individual components of the reverb hardware, developer Sean Costello took a more artistic route by tweaking his ear processing. The results of this have led to some of the most respected reverbs in existence.
In this guide, we will introduce you to the five Valhalla reverb plug-ins, plus the free Valhalla FreqEcho processor, and help you get started with their basic parameters and sonic possibilities. You can get the entire Valhalla gang on the ValhallaDSP website.
Valhalla DSP Reverb Complete Library Free Download:
In this regard, we will introduce you to the Five Valhalla reverb plugins and one free Valhalla FreqEcho processor. The detailed of plugins is as under:
- ValhallaRoom
- ValhallaVintageVerb
- ValhallaShimmer
- ValhallaUberMod
- ValhallaPlate
- ValhallaFreqEcho
The Sub-Detailed of plugins is given below:
ValhallaRoom:
- Perhaps the most direct of all Valhalla DSP plug-ins, Valhalla Room offers you a simulation of the reverb response of a real room. This can be considered as a studio space, in most cases, but the sound and response can also be taken to the more extreme territory. The plug-in’s primary mode of operation, the type of reverb it is producing, is configured using the Reverb Mode option, with a selection of specific room sizes, depths, and spaces.
- On the left are the global ValhallaRoom controls: Mix combines the reverb signal with the original dry input signal; PreDelay introduces a delay after its original sound and before the actual reverb is activated; Decay sets the amount of time it takes for the reverb to fade; High Cut removes the highest frequencies from the reverb signal.
- An interesting feature of this room reverb is its different settings for early and late reverb reflections, and the ability to mix into one, the other, or both, using the depth control. Late reflections can be tailored to your modulation size, speed/depth, and bass response can be specified, while early reflections have their size selector, modulation controls, and the amount of this stage that can then be adjusted. send to the Late Reflections stage.
ValhallaVintageVerb:
- VintageVerb is reminiscent of classic reverb hardware, bringing you the sounds of bygone eras in your mix. VintageVerb’s review scores are high thanks to its analog-style response and sophisticated sound.
- The Plugin’s Mix, PreDelay and Decay controls work the same way as in ValhallaRoom, and its available reverb modes of operation include rooms, cameras, boards, and random and unique settings. VintageVerb’s Color parameter reduces the era it is emulating with its reverb settings, with a choice of 1970, 1980 or “Now”.
- The customization you can access with your vintage verbs is pretty deep. With the Damping Controls, you can dampen certain frequency bands so that the bass or high frequencies decrease at different speeds, and you can change the diffusion parameters for early and late reflections independently.
ValhallaShimmer:
- Perhaps the most intriguing of the Valhalla reverbs described in this overview, ValhallaShimmer specializes in creating huge, extraterrestrial, and long reverb sounds with high density. All parameters can be adjusted seamlessly once the reverb has been set into motion, meaning you can conjure up evolving and complex sounds by adjusting parameters on the fly and using modulation controls.
- Shimmer features pitch-shifting through the Shift control, making the reverb signal higher or lower than its original input by up to 12 semitones (one octave). The feedback control sees the reverb output connected back to the input, helping your changes take longer to trigger.
- With tone modes that combine single, dual and reverse operation, and colour mode selection between bright and dark, ValhallaShimmer has a lot of customization when creating long and deep reverb beds.
ValhallaUberMod:
- Perhaps the least reverb-esque of all the Valhalla DSP plugins, UberMod comes as a multitap delay with onboard modulation lashes. There are 32 touches of delay, with diffusion and distortion to push things further.
- Press the Delay and Feedback controls to set the base delay time used by UberMod. Modes of operation include Chorus, Ensembles, Delays of different tap numbers, and more. Then head over to the six tabs on the right-hand side for even more control over the details of how all of the UberMod delay lines react to each other and feed delayed signals to each other.
- With UberMod, you can create tape-style feedback delay effects, modulated chorus and flange-style effects, inverse reverb sounds, and many others. When adjusting the modulation parameters, Spread, Slope and Skew of the delay, diffusion rate and depth taps, EQ, distortion and deformation, there is always something unexpected waiting around the corner with UberMod.
ValhallaPlate:
- The latest ValhallaDSP reverb, ValhallaPlate emulates the classic plate reverb effect, where sound was sent to resonate through a huge metal plate. This initial studio effect was a staple in vocal recordings, but that doesn’t mean Valhalla’s reverb is just suited for that: try it on drums, synths, and anything else to get that resonant and haunting plate sound in your tracks.
- ValhallaPlate modes are geared towards the type of metal the simulated board is made of, and include some completely made-up metals among them. You get Size and Width controls to simulate the specific plate you want to conjure, and EQ parameters to affect the signal.
- In addition to the Modulation Rate and Depth controls, this reverb plug-in is a relatively simple input from ValhallaDSP, but it’s the hard-to-model sound of classic plate reverb hardware that’s at stake in this one.
ValhallaFreqEcho Free:
- When you cross a frequency shifter with a delay, you can get some amazing results, feeding the circuit’s output to the input to create evolving, cascading repeats of your original sound. FreqEcho’s mission is to explore just that, combining its main shift control with delay time, feedback and mix controls, to get creepy echoes that go on and on.
- You can limit the effect with high and low cut filters, which narrows things down to allow a bit more Feedback to be used without completely overloading the sound. If you’re changing, you may want to introduce some high cut; if it’s going down, try a low cut … although you can always throw the rulebook out the window.

I am very sure you have heard or use a reverb effect multiple times in your music projects, and if you haven’t used it in your projects, you’ve come across it on most occasions, but you aren’t aware it’s a reverb.
Before we dive into the best free reverb vst plugin, let me briefly explain what a reverb effect does, you can skip this section if you aren’t new to reverb effects.
Reverb is the simulation of the sound of space. This space could be your bathroom, a small room, concert hall, chamber and so on. For example, the sound is different when you clap in the bathroom vs when you clap in a concert hall and this is because the spaces and the reflections build-up are different in each room, the larger the room the greater or wider the reverb, the smaller the room, the lesser the reverb.
Why Use Reverb Effects?
You’ll mostly find reverb effects in every music producer toolbox, and can be used to create all sorts of effects but it can easily be misused too, basically reverb effects can be used to…
- To create depth in a mix; pushing elements further back in a mix
- To glue elements within a track together
- To create a simulation of the sound of space, e,g creating a concert hall like special effect within a track and
- so on…
Since we know the importance of using reverb, I would be recommending some of the best free reverb effects plugins in the music production scene right now.
Note: Here are the best paid reverb effects
Let’s get cracking…
1.) Smart Electronix – Ambience
A friend recommended Ambience to me a few years back, and the moment I tested it, I was literally blown away.
One of my favorite features of Ambience is the hold parameter which smartly freezes the reverb tail until the button is released or you can think of it like freezing the reverb effect in a suspended state.
You can use this for creating a reverse reverb effect, special effect and you can even automate the knobs.
The ambience is a donationware plugin. You get a nag screen with no limitation, and if you love the plugin, you can donate to the developer.’
Download: Win 32 VST / Mac OSX VST
2.) Impulse Record – Convology XT
A free convolution reverb from Impulse record, in case, you aren’t aware, convolution reverb uses software profiles to digitally simulate the reverberation of space, and uses a pre-recorded audio sample of the impulse response of the space being modeled.
This is exactly how Convology XT works, the impulse-response recording is stored in a digital audio signal processing system, and then convolved with the incoming audio signal to be processed.
Convology XT comes with a free 70 Vintage Reverb Impulse Response Files. If you so wish, you can also purchase more impulse responses from the Convology XT library, other than that, it is absolutely free with no nag.
Also, it features an intuitive interface to browse through the libraries, allows you to quickly test run presets and audition on the fly while the music is playing.
I didn’t mention it supports both WAV and AIF files right, well, now you know. I don’t know if you’ve ever imagined using stretch (long reverb) when using a reverb plugin, Convology XT doesn’t only include Stretch, you also have an option for decay time scaling, EQ, frequency-dependent decay time scaling, time reverse, and amplitude envelope.
Requirements:
- Windows 7 and later; VST2 / VST3 / AAX
- Mac OS 10.7.x and later; AU / VST2 / VST3 / AAX

3.) EpicMStudios – Dimension +
Dimension + is a really super simple plugin that simulates sound reverberation in variable size spaces.
It features three controls:
- Direction: Direction of the audio source
- Room Size: Alters how large the simulated space is.
- Dry/Wet: Alters how much of the effect is present in the mix.
Download: Dimension Plus
4.) Synthescience – Feezechamber
The Freexechamber is a free reverb plugin by Synthescience for simple reverb effects.
I sometimes use this in place of Ambience plugin if I want to play with the Freeze switch, the switch enables the user at any moment (while the Verb is processing) to Hold the process into a suspended state.
It comes with few presets, which can be used to lay down quick ideas.

10.) U-he- Protoverb
Protoreverb aids as reverb research for u-he, and now, they are releasing it to the public for free. It is an experimental plugin that is based on a room simulator reverb.
According to u-he:
Most algorithmic reverbs try to avoid resonances or model the reflections of sound from a room’s walls. Protoverb does the opposite. It builds up as many room resonances as possible, modelling the body of air in the room. No need to modulate or colour the signal.
